Look and Feel:
Anyone familiar with the Icom 706 range will feel pretty much at home with the new 7000. It’s roughly the same size as the 706’s and has a similar layout. However the buttons are slightly larger (better for larger fingers and working mobile). The screen, although not as wide, is full colour and nice and clear. The knobs have a nice feel to them and I didn’t find any sloppy play in them. The corners are all nicely rounded which gives it a nice smooth look.

Functions:
This little radio is so packed with features it’s difficult to know where to begin. No need to buy extra filters as the 7000 has built in digital filtering for all bands and modes. The DSP apparently has two dedicated DSP chips inside, which I have to admit work well.

The IC-7000 is a menu driven radio which at first can be a bit daunting, but once used a few times setting can be changed quickly when required even during a QSO.

Please bear in mind that the functions are far more advanced than I can put into words and there are more features that I haven’t used as yet and I am writing this as a novice.

I have to say that I am impressed. It’s by no means a big gun radio, but would certainly give the big ones a run for their money.

Would I recommend buying one? YES WITHOUT ANY DOUBT! At $1699 + del its a steal!

Cheers
