IMAX 2000 - Improving your TITS!

Admin 2's picture

Following the comments I read about the IMAX 2000 vertical antenna that were posted by 9FAT016 Adrian in Canada, I decided to do a little bit of research. Users is always going on about how they don't get enough quality T.I.T.S (Time In The Shack) - well maybe this antenna can help! Here's a review I found of the IMAX 2000 antenna on the web that I thought Adrian and other guys might find useful. I'm not sure where you can buy them so perhaps someone else could help me with that one?

Imax 2000 Base Antenna - A Product Review

The New high performance Imax 2000 CB radio 5/8 wave base antenna is a 24 feet long (Three 8' Sections) CB radio and amateur radio base antenna with an impressive gain of 5.1dB over isotropic which is 1-2dB gain over its best competitor.

This high performing vertical antenna has an end fed 5/8 wave length radiator with extended I-max (current maximum) centre section.

A new mounting system makes it user friendly also. The antenna has wide bandwidth and high power handling capabilities, broad band, is SWR tuneable with an optimum SWR 1.5 - 1 , typically 3 MHz wide and a frequency range: 26-29 MHz which can be moved up or down by tuning rings.

The antenna has been tested at 5000 watts and is rated for all legal power. It is insulated for up to 14,500 Volts!

Hope you find the info useful!

IMAX 2000

Hi Kate ,

Sorry about the slip re: db gain . I was recalling The I-MAX 99 , which starts in The 28Mhz region , rather than The 2000 . Your info is all correct according to the guide book I have . Its a fibreglass antenna . An unusual feature is that its white in colour , which prompted The Canadian Coastguard to move in for a closer look when I was DXing from a beach in The Queen Charlottes . It really stands out against a background of coniferous forest . Great antenna though !

I bought mine via 'Durham Radio' of Whitby, Ontario .
They have a website and will send anywhere in the world .
Where I live there are no radio stores selling CB gear , only trucking , ham , and , marine equipment .

I used this antenna in Yukon Territory , Northwest Territories , and , The Queen Charlotte Islands NA051 ,Kaien Island ,in The BC North Group NA061 ,and had some great DX results with it .

The I-MAX 2000 is manufactured by :

Solarcon Inc.
7134 Railroad St ,
P.O. Box 176 ,
Holland OH 43528
USA .

Run in with the Coast Guard...

Sounds very interesting, Adrian. I actually had a similar sort of run in with some of the traditional land owners on Booby Island in the Torres Strait when I was up there LOTA dxing a few years ago. I wasn't aware that the island was a protected bird sanctuary and that access was prohibited. Everything turned out okay though!

I would love to hear more about your IOTA adventures and this 'run in' with the Canadian Coastguard...Maybe you could put a few words together if you have time...Do you still have the log also?

Despite this site being more of an aussie forum for aussie issues and adventures, i'm sure users wouldn't mind something from abroad - especially from one of its regular contributors!!!

When can we expect another IOTA trip from 9FAT016? :-))

9 Div IOTA

Hi Darren ,

I have been doing some internet research with a view to an activation Oct 22-29 , 2005 . I am looking at BC Province South Group NA091 ( also rather confusingly known as The Northern Gulf Islands ) , QTH Malcolm Island , off Port McNeill , Vancouver Island . May be running two stations simultaneously , the other being 9FAT/CAN420 Pulteney Point Light Station , also located on Malcolm Island .

I will keep you posted .
