5 Minutes Once in a While

It's becoming more apparent the number of aging operators who, are hanging up the microphone and or sadly going silent key. One only has to stop once in a while and think about previous good times on the radio, to remember an operator who passed on their wisdom, knowledge and friendship.

I had the opportunity today to catch up (on the phone) with one such operator Mr. Clem 418 who a few years ago ran most mornings a net on channel 38 called the 'Early Birds' from Perth WA. On some occasions I’ve heard up to 90 log ins from all corners of Australia.

Clem is now aged somewhere near 92 yrs and with the help of some wonderful operators close by he’s now back on the air from his nursing home, all be it in a way that restricts his tx/rx. But if and when propagation returns, I’m sure he will be heard again.

So I encourage all, if you know of one such operator in your area, take five minutes, to give them a call - even if it's on the phone - and brighten their day. The rewards are good for both.
